ForrestDr_Rielsing_10 (855 x 1283)I still find it a slight thrill when the first wines of the current vintage start to come through and it was indeed a thrill to taste the 2010 Forrest Estate Doctor’s Riesling.
Fresh as a daisy and redolent of honeysuckle, citrus blossom and a delicious underlying wet stone minerality, this wine made the still grey and rainy weather outside fade away and instead brought into focus the imminent joys of spring.
Yes, the good Dr Forrest had produced something your own doctor would presumably approve of with its lower alcohol (9%) but from the more important pleasure principles, this riesling is perfectly balanced, finely poised and very delicious.  It may be light in body and alcohol but its texture and length ensure it could never be considered a lightweight.
So, light and breezy but with plenty of style – if you have not yet tried any of the increasing number of lower-alcohol rieslings out there, then you may as well start with one of the best and seek out The Doctor’s 2010.
