With each successive vintage, Steve Davis confirms his place as one of Central’s best producers. A quietly spoken man, the wine is a good reflection of its maker; never flamboyant but showing confidence and presence. The 2016 Doctor’s Flat Pinot Noir is absolutely singing right now; lifted aromas of ripe redcurrant, cherry and plum with a delightful touch of rose petal and dried thyme too. The palate is vividly fruited, showing great concentration (albeit in a subtle, restrained way) and with a sleek background of ripe powdery tannin. Although delicious now, the wine’s intensity and sustained finish suggest it will continue developing in bottle over the next five years at least.
